Before Facebook... there was "The Baby Book." You'll remember that incoming Freshmen at Wittenberg submitted pictures as part of the application process - usually high school senior class pictures - but not always. This was a way for the incoming freshman class to get to know each other, as well as see where people were from. The earliest form of social networking.
Of course, upperclassmen (and women) were known to get copies of these books in order to "get to know" the incoming class.
These college books became common at small colleges in Ohio in the mid- to late 1950's. The earliest of these books in the Thomas Library collection was in 1961, then known as the "Who's Who" book.

This medium evolved over time, but the book was essentially the same until the early 2000's. If you have interesting stories to tell about "The Baby Book," share them.
The WIN Foundation would like you to share your experience and enthusiasm for Wittenberg on projects that we are developing to support enrollment and new programs. Become part of our "social network" of action.
Special thanks to Suzanne Smailes at the Thomas Library for her help in researching this topic.
